ConsumerNZ have a great article exposing that this price increase is actually because your account has extra services added to it. If you use Microsoft Office for personal use as it is a part of your employment, contract or education, you should be aware that once you leave that organisation you will no longer have full access to your files that are in the name of the organisation who license the software.
From a Māori Data Sovereignty perspective, Microsoft Office is a colonial land grab, that occurs so discreetly and swiftly that most people do not even notice that their data is automatically backed up to OneDrive on international servers.
A free and fully Māori and Indigenous Data Sovereign option is to use open source software. Open Office is very similar to Microsoft Office with many of the same apps Word, SpreadSheet, Presentation etc. It will also open all of your Office files.
There are free addons such as a te reo Māori spell checker and it is fully compliant with macrons.
