The ability to create a macron in a web address became one step closer to reality this week when the DNC opened the public consultation seeking feedback in issues to implement IDNs in the .nz hierarchy.
Once implemented, people will be able to use macrons in their web and email addresses.
As it happens, the implementation of IDNs at an international level, will next week become a reality for many, with ICANN beginning to implement IDNs.
It is great that we are seeing the Internet become truly a global communication tool that is not English centric. Just this week, the top level domain name .asia was made available.
I forecast we will see much larger changes in the structure of the Internet in the near future.
