.bank.nz (moderated) was approved as New Zealand’s 14th 2ndLevel domain name last week. That makes 5 new 2nd level domains since 2002. A sure sign the Internet and in fact the governance .nz body are both maturing.
I envisage that banks having thier own 2LD should reduce the risk of phishing attacks unless people get the domain mixed up out of bad habbit, ie, bank.co.nz .
In the long term, the banks new online banking code will be easier to govern from phishing attacks.
